Sample Bequest Language

Thank you for considering the Virginia Outdoors Foundation in your estate plans. Below is sample bequest language that we hope you will find helpful in your discussion with your attorney. VOF cannot provide tax or legal advice.

Specific Bequest

Directs a dollar amount or particular assets, such as securities or tangible personal property (such as works of art), to VOF.

Sample language: “I give (insert dollar amount or asset) to the Virginia Outdoors Foundation, an instrumentality of the Commonwealth of Virginia, with offices located at 39 Garrett Street, Suite 200, Warrenton, Virginia, 20186, to be used to be used for its general purposes.”

Residuary Bequest

Directs all or part of the balance of a donor’s estate to a beneficiary after each of the specific bequests has been satisfied.

Sample language: “I give and bequeath to the Virginia Outdoors Foundation, an instrumentality of the Commonwealth of Virginia, with offices located at 39 Garrett Street, Suite 200, Warrenton, Virginia, 20186, all (or ____%) of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, to be used for its general purposes.”

Contingent Bequest

Provides for the disposition of a donor’s estate if one or more of the named beneficiaries fails to survive the donor.

Sample language: “If any of the above-named beneficiaries should predecease me, I hereby bequeath his or her share to the Virginia Outdoors Foundation, an instrumentality of the Commonwealth of Virginia, with offices located at 39 Garrett Street, Suite 200, Warrenton, Virginia, 20186 to be used for its general purposes.”

Restricted Bequest
