DESCRIPTION:*** RAIN or SHINE *** \nIn celebration of its 50th anniversary in 2016\, VOF is partnering with Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve in Loudoun County to host the Virginia Outdoors Festival. \nDirections to Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve \nBanshee Reeks is located east of Route 15\, about six miles south of Leesburg. \nFrom Rt. 621/Evergreen Mills Road \nTake Rt. 771/Woods Road west.  Woods Road is under construction.  Look for our event signs to make sure you are using the correct entrance. Follow Rt. 771 for almost 1 mile. The entrance to Banshee Reeks will be on your left. \nFrom Rt. 15 \nTake Rt. 651/Gap Road east for approximately ¾ miles. Turn Right on Route 650/Gleedsville Road.   Stay on Rt. 650 for ½ a mile. Our work has resulted in the protection of approximately 50\,000 acres of some of the region’s most cherished natural and cultural resources. Join us for presentations\, light refreshments\, and informative boat rides on the James River courtesy of the James River Association. \nQuestions or assistance on the day of the event may be directed to Jason McGarvey\, (804) 314-9557. \nRegister now \nSchedule\n3:00pm-3:30pm — Arrivals \n3:30pm-3:45pm — Welcome and brief remarks \n4:00pm — Boat rides begin for those interested \n6:00pm — Wrap up \nThroughout — Refreshments\, socializing\, and an activity table for kids (pet rock painting). \nDetailed Directions\nDirections from I-95 / I-295 to Coggins Point Road \nTake I-95 or I-295 to VA-10 E toward Hopewell. Approximately 5 miles east of Hopewell\, turn left on State Rte 641 (Moody Road). Follow State Rte 641 for approximately 1 mile and turn left onto State Rte 693 (Coggins Point Road). \nDirections from VA-5 to Coggins Point Road \nTake VA-5 to VA-156 S in Charles City County. Cross the Benjamin Harrison Memorial Bridge and turn left onto VA-10 E. (Note: There may be construction delays on the bridge.) Follow VA-10 E for a little over 2 miles and turn left on State Rte 641 (Moody Road). Follow State Rte 641 for approximately 1 mile and turn left onto State Rte 693 (Coggins Point Road). \nDirections from US-460 to Coggins Point Road \nTake US-460 W to VA-156 N (approximately 3.5 miles west of Disputanta). Follow VA-156 N roughly 5.7 miles and turn right onto VA-106 N/VA-156 Bypass N. Go about 2 miles and then turn right onto State Rte 641 (Merchants Hope Road). Follow 3.7 miles. Merchants Hope Rd becomes Moody Rd after crossing VA-10. Turn left onto State Rte 693 (Coggins Point Road). \nDirections from Coggins Point Road to Event Parking \nTake Coggins Point Road until you see the sign where state maintenance ends\, and then follow the private road until you pass the sign that says “Coggins Point Farm.” Follow the drive straight through the row of trees and you will see a grassy area for parking next to an old barn. Park there. We will provide a short shuttle service to the main house.

DESCRIPTION:VOF invites partners and landowners to celebrate 50 years of conservation achievements in the Shenandoah Valley Region at Shenandoah State Park in Warren County. \nNOTE: When you arrive at the gate\, tell the parking attendant that you are there for the VOF 50th Celebration. Parking fees have been kindly waived for our event by the Department of Conservation and Recreation. \nWe will be meeting at the Massanutten Shelter. \nProgram Highlights\n\nHonored guests and speakers will welcome us. Homemade ice cream and homemade Italian ice catered by C&C Frozen Treats of Front Royal.\nVOF’s Laura Thurman will lead us on the trail to Culler’s Overlook that offers a magnificent view of the Shenandoah River and Massanutten mountains.\nMultiple easement donor Bruce Ingram will be signing copies of his new books titled Living the Locavore Lifestyle and James River Guide. To learn more about the author and his books\, visit https://sites.google.com/site/bruceingramoutdoors/.\nOrganized VOF activities will occur until around 3:00 pm. We hope that all will visit with guests and take advantage of the park offerings thereafter.\nMany trails exist throughout the park for strolling\, hiking or biking. Further information on the trails can be found here.\nThe Shenandoah River is a popular destination for canoeing and kayaking. The park has 5.2 miles of river frontage\, with many areas available for launching canoes\, kayaks and tubes. The river is fairly shallow and there are no major rapids (nothing above class 2 typically). The park does not offer boat rentals. Virginia Canopy Tours near our Massanutten Shelter will rent river tubes and host zipline tours. Visit the Virginia Canopy Tours website to make reservations!\nFor those interested\, the park will begin a Hooked on Fishing program at 5:00 pm at the main canoe launch area. Parking fees have been kindly waived for our event by the Department of Conservation and Recreation. \nProgram Highlights\n\nSeveral easement donors and land trust partners will welcome us\, followed by a light meal catered by Smokey’s BBQ from Wytheville.\nNational Flatpicking Champion Scott Fore will be providing musical entertainment.
